PI IEEE Student Branch
What is IEEE?
IEEE stands for Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Founded in 1963, IEEE is a non-profit organization that seeks advancement in electrical technology worldwide. It hosts seminars, research papers, journals, etc. related to Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Today IEEE is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology in the world with 375,000 members in more than 160 countries.
The PI IEEE Student Branch
The Student Branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the IEEE Women Affinity Group at the PI were established in 2007 and 2008 respectively. They are composed of volunteering student members and faculty. Their purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to be actively involved in their professional society; the IEEE.
The IEEE Student Branch at the PI raises awareness about IEEE and informs the students of its significance, the significance of the IEEE events, and the benefits of being an IEEE member. It also provides the students with the opportunity to develop their leadership, and to organize and get involved in IEEE events including seminars, field trips, design competitions, social activities, and community service activities. In addition, it allows them to actively participate in IEEE events at the national, regional, and international levels.
Electrical engineering students at the PI have won several awards at the national and international levels for their design and community service projects and have actively participated in conferences and events at the national, regional, and international levels.

IEEE UAE Section
The IEEE UAE Section was established in 1987 to participate in the development of U.A.E. and fulfill the vision perceived by the nation’s leaders. It has played an essential role in widening the scope of techno-electrical and computing awareness in the society. Its main goals are to build the technological infrastructure, to develop the Techno-Electrical industry, and to improve life-styles of individuals.
Through technical seminars conducted by prominent electrical engineers worldwide, IEEE has participated in the process of technology transfer. Several conferences, held in U.A.E., were organized and sponsored by IEEE, which attracted many distinguished speakers. Their contributions were recognized by the society and were considered the keystone to the advancement of engineering sciences in U.A.E. The Executive Committee of the IEEE UAE Section have tried their best to increase the technical and social activities and improve the Electrical Engineering profession in U.A.E.
