The Electrical Engineering Department at the Petroleum Institute is students centered with an undergraduate curriculum that combines strength in electrical engineering fundamentals with extensive laboratory experience to reinforce the principles and concepts used in the classroom. It also includes design experiences to apply learned knowledge to solve representatives of real-world problems, all in an environment that stresses leadership and teamwork. In addition, the program emphasizes the development of computer and oral and written communication skills of its students. The undergraduate program also features a summer internship in industry where students gain significant exposure to industry and real-world electrical engineering issues that complements their educational experience. This program is open to qualified UAE nationals, and selected non-nationals.

The Electrical Engineering Department at the Petroleum Institute offers the Bachelor of Science, the Master of Science, and the Master of Engineering Degrees in Electrical Engineering.

The discipline of power engineering is a blend of electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution theory and applications.  Students take courses that include electric power systems, electric machines, and power electronic devices and circuits.

The discipline of instrumentation, automation, and controls couples basic studies in engineering science with fundamental studies in the areas of instrumentation, automation, and control engineering.  Students take courses that include circuit analysis, microprocessors, digital control and industrial automation.
