Dr. Shiryayev joined the Petroleum Institute as an Assistant Professor in mechanical engineering in August, 2010. He graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (Summa Cum Laude), and M.Sc. in Engineering from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, USA. He was awarded a Ph.D. at the same institution in 2008. His dissertation was focused on the development of a novel structural health monitoring method based on random vibration measurements. His research interests are in the areas of nonlinear dynamics, system identification, and structural health monitoring. He participated in various research projects including modeling of nonlinear dynamic behavior of bolted joints, vibration suppression using shunted piezoelectric actuators, and modeling of jet engine dynamics during in-flight power extraction.
