Welcome to the PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES Program

Most people possibly think of a geoscientist as a geologist walking in the mountains with his hammer. These people still exist, but geoscience is much more varied and it is definitely not low tech any longer. Today geoscientists in the UAE typically will use advanced computer systems to evaluate oil or gas reservoirs, their compositions, their structure or their value. Several also work in the upper management of the ADNOC system. Around the World you find them in many different types of jobs; in oil companies, in mining companies, in service companies, in institutions for the environment, in financial institutions (many), in academic institutions, running their own companies (many) etc. For example, one of the first persons on the Moon was a geoscientist. A positive aspect of geoscience is that it is, in its nature, a multi-discipline, with room for many different types of people; theoretical mathematicians, IT-freaks or the mountain climbing geologist to mention just a few.

At the PI we offer students a modern educational program leading to a B.Sc. degree that emphasizes petroleum geology and geophysics. We will in the future also offer post-graduate and continuing education programs. We have a strong research effort focused on the needs of the petroleum industry and on local and regional geology. The PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES Program at The Petroleum Institute is open to qualified UAE nationals, and selected non-nationals. For application information, please consult the PI homepage. We invite you to explore our program, and as said above; today is definitely a good time to become a geoscientist!

"This is definitely a good time to become a geoscientist."
