Message from the Dean
The College of Engineering (COE) is the degree granting unit of the Petroleum Institute (PI). Its mission is closely aligned with PI’s mission and vision to support the advancement of the petroleum and energy industry in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through excellence in education and research in the field of engineering. Students are prepared for careers in the engineering profession and also prepared to conduct research leading to innovative technologies. The College has close working relationships with its main sponsor, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its operating companies, in addition to the Petroleum Institute’s international sponsoring companies.
Currently, the COE offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in the following Departments:
New degree programs in Metallurgy and Polymer Science and Engineering in a new Materials Science and Engineering Department are being planned for the near future. All of the engineering disciplines offered at PI are appropriately selected to provide ADNOC and the petroleum industry with highly educated professional engineers in the fields that are most important for the development and growth of the UAE’s ever expanding and progressive business of the oil and gas industry.
All of the five engineering programs are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The Chemical Engineering (B.S.), Electrical Engineering (B.S.), Mechanical Engineering (B.S.), and the Petroleum Engineering (B.S.) are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET, and the Petroleum Geosciences (B.S) is accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Commission (ASAC) of ABET.
Each program follows the American style of engineering education, which is provided at the PI by a highly experienced multinational group of faculty who are active in research and scholarship. The COE faculty members continue to excel in their specializations through high quality paper publications and presentations in refereed international journals and conferences.
The COE curriculum is designed to provide the students with a quality education which broadens and supports their intellectual and practical development through academic excellence, scholarly activity and the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a globalized world. Common university-level courses in basic sciences, mathematics, humanities and social sciences are offered by the Arts and Sciences program to ensure that all students have a broad education. The COE has state-of-the-art facilities that include high-tech laboratories, classrooms and laboratories that are considered world-class by many of our visitors.
I welcome you to the College of Engineering at the Petroleum Institute.
Dr. Youssef Lotfy Abdel Magid
Dean of the College of Engineering
